Why Locals Love Harry Haddocks Fish & Chip Shop
Harry Haddocks Fish & Chip Shop, nestled at 74 Barker's Butts Lane in Coundon, Coventry, is a standout destination for anyone craving a classic British takeaway experience done exceptionally well. Specializing in traditional fish and chips, this beloved local spot prides itself on delivering freshly cooked, high-quality meals that consistently raise the bar for what you expect from your neighborhood chippy.
From the moment you place your order—whether online or in-person—you’ll notice the dedication to customer satisfaction that sets Harry Haddocks apart. Take, for instance, the remarkable story shared by Malcolm Clayton, whose online pick-up mix-up was quickly resolved with Michelle personally delivering his meal. This level of attentive service resonates throughout the customer base, cultivating a loyal following that values both quality and care.
The menu boasts an array of authentic British favorites, made to order with an emphasis on freshness and flavor. The fish, expertly battered to achieve a golden, crispy exterior without an ounce of greasiness, conceals tender, flaky flesh inside. This is complemented perfectly by their chips, which strike a delightful balance—not too crispy, not too soft—earning rave reviews from first-timers and regulars alike. For those seeking a bit of variety, the shop also offers mushy peas, curried sauces, chicken, sausages, and even doner kebabs, all showcasing the same commitment to satisfying, hearty flavors.
Newcomers to the area like Alice Ames often note the welcoming atmosphere—spotlessly clean premises accompanied by friendly, approachable staff including younger team members and seasoned veterans who treat each customer like family. It’s this genuine warmth combined with the consistently delicious food that transforms a simple takeaway stop into a comforting ritual for many.
Even minor hiccups don’t dampen the overall experience. John Vincent’s small issue with his ordered roe fishcakes was noted as “minor” in comparison to the top-notch quality and great flavors that keep him returning every weekend. Meanwhile, regulars like Teresa Fagan praise the thoughtful packaging and variety, from mixed kebabs tucked into pitta to perfectly balanced portions of cod, battered sausage, and golden chips, accompanied by curry sauce discreetly nestled in the box.
Harry Haddocks Fish & Chip Shop is more than just a takeaway; it’s a heartfelt expression of classic British comfort food done right. Whether you’re a longtime local or just passing through, a visit here promises not only tasty food but a genuine sense of care and community. It’s a go-to spot that brings warmth and satisfaction to every order—an absolute must-try for fish and chip lovers.

Big thank you to all at Harry Haddocks last night and especially Michelle. I ordered online and ticked pick up instead of delivery. After a couple of calls trying to sort it out, Michelle jumped in her car and delivered our food! Customer service of the highest order and as usual the food was excellent. Thanks all...

Son normally gets 2 fish chips and mushy peas with salad to see us over Saturday Sunday. This week we fancied 2 roe instead of one of the fish. Ended up with 2 fish cakes instead, still charged for roe. This place serves excellent food. The glitch was minor

New to the area and was recommended by a friend . First impression was how clean it looked. Second impression of how helpful staff were, the younger staff and a very kind older man, maybe the owner? Chicken chips and mushy peas were lovely. Thank you.

Just had the best fish&chips in a very long time. 1st time I've had it from HarryHaddocks and I think I may have found my go to for Fish&chips. The fish was freshly cooked on order. Was perfectly cooked, crispy batter and flaky fish, without it being greasy. The chips were amazing, I prefer a less crispy chip and these were spot on for me. Curry sauce was great also. Also had Donner meat and the portion was enough to feed 1 adult and 2 kids. 5* highly recommend looking forward to my next order

Harry’s never fails to deliver the best food. We had cod, battered sausage, mixed kebab in pitta and a portion of chips. Also curry sauce which I thought they forgot but it was tucked away nicely in the box with the fish.

Fish and chips ain't the same these days. When I was a kid, i went the chippy with my Dad. The fish was thick white flakes with thin batter, the chips weren't dry and tasteless like today. Well if you want quality, and I mean quality fish and chips!! The way fish and chips used to be, how they should be. Not this thick soggy batter with hardly any fish and the fish you do get is grey and tastes like something caught out of Coventry canal. If you want beautiful golden thin batter, white chunky fish, with beautiful chips, crispy on the outside and soft moist potato on the inside. If you are looking for the best fish and chips, not just in Coventry, but I think the west Midlands and behind!! Harry Haddocks is the spot! Fantastic friendly staff, coupled with fantastic food. Don't waste your money on other chippies, get down to Harry's and be amazed!!!! You won't be disappointed...

My first time using this Take Away and from now on it is my preferred one in Coventry. I ordered online and the delivery was made quickly. The food was of a high standard and quality and well presented also hot when delivered. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.
